V1 Award in Conducting Internal Quality Assurance of the Assessment Process

The qualification aims are to ensure that the Internal Verifier is able to:

  • Evaluate the internal assessment process
  • Monitor and review internal assessment audit systems
  • Carry out related internal verification activities - including sample planning, sampling portfolios, running
  • standardisation activities, record keeping etc

Course Content

The V1 Qualification comprises covers:

  • An overview of NVQs
  • The role of the internal verifier and definition of verification
  • Outline of verification strategy
  • Identification of assessor needs and support
  • Allocation of learners to assessors
  • Undertaking observations of assessor practice
  • Feedback skills
  • Liaison with external verifier
  • Internal quality assurance

Assessment and Evidence

The V1 assessment will require the student to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the verification process and their ability to competently verify.

The V1 student will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their ability to competently verify the work of A1 assessors.

What are the Entry Requirements?

To undertake the V1 Award you will need to have occupational competence as determined by the sector in which you wish to work and have responsibility for at least 2 NVQ Assessors. Individuals accessing the Award must hold the A1 or an equivalent i.e D32/D33. An initial assessment will be undertaken before you enter the Award.

How Long Does it Take to Achieve?

The initial induction phase is one day of classroom-based tuition. This is followed by your workplace assessments and a second one-day workshop to complete the award. The time frame for completion of the course is largely down to the candidate – but the minimum time would be ten weeks. In reality this award will take 12-18 months to achieve.
